Community Development - Redevelopment of Countryside Plaza

As the City’s primary shopping center, the 548,000 sq. ft., 43-acre Countryside Plaza’s redevelopment is a key to the City's revitalization efforts. Currently a mix of filled and vacant commercial space, the plaza on LaGrange Rd. began its redevelopment in January with the opening of a 118,000 sq. ft. Home Depot store. The store includes the company's new store design, a 20,000 sq. ft. outdoor garden center and a tool rental center.  Home Depot has also received City approval to expand the store by 13,500 sq. ft. over its current configuration, though no expansion date has been set by Home Depot.

The Community Development Dept. worked with the City Council and the Plan Commission/Zoning Board of Appeals on a sales tax incentive agreement and zoning code variances in order to make the Home Depot project a reality.  The City of Countryside welcomes Home Depot to our community and looks forward to their success.

The City is also in the process of working with the plaza's primary developer, Simon Property Group, to locate other national tenants to the plaza.  The City Council has recently approved Simon's plan to modernize many aspects of the plaza - including a new plaza facade and new signage, a redesigned plaza exit and entranceway (adding lanes for northbound LaGrange Rd. traffic), a new landscaping plan and two new national tenants.  Please see the following articles for more information on the plaza's redevelopment:
