Community Development - NIPC Releases Extensive 2000 Census Data for the City of Countryside

The Northeastern Illinois Planning Commission (NIPC) has released 60-page Census 2000 demographic profiles for each county, township, and municipality in northeastern Illinois, including Countryside.

NIPC had previously updated its preliminary 2030 population and employment forecasts for the City of Countryside.  Following a meeting with City of Countryside staff members, in addition to meeting with 209 other communities in the region, as part of NIPC’s Paint The Town Project, the agency tabulated forecasts based on those interviews as well as on projected future land use information. Given the generally built-out nature of Countryside, the growth forecasted until 2030 is modest, yet still represents an increase in both population and employment.

  2000 2030 Change
Population 5,991 6,287 +296
Households 2,661 2,805 +144
Employment 6,003 6,577 +574
Total Acres 1,772 1,728 +6

Regionally, NIPC is forecasting a population increase of 1.8-2.5 million people (to over 10 million), and job growth of between 1.2-2.7 million.  Cook County's population is expected to rise from 5.3 million to nearly 6 million by 2030.

Further information on this project can be obtained through the City’s Community Development Department at (708)354-2970 or via email at commdev@countryside-il.org.
