ESDA Coordinator Steven Norman

Coordinator Norman has been with the City of Countryside’s Emergency Management program since 1988 and was appointed to the position of Coordinator in May of 1999.  As the coordinator, the position is responsible for the preparation and maintenance of the city’s comprehensive Emergency Operations Plan for responding to major disasters, severe weather response, Strategic National Stockpile distribution planning, preparedness education and emergency response and mitigation planning for all city facilities, parks and sponsored events.  Additional responsibilities for the coordinator include functioning as the city’s program lead for maintenance and compliance in meeting federally mandated initiatives relating to the National Incident Management System and as a city department head the position is also responsible for budget preparation and supporting the other city departments.

Since 2005, Coordinator Norman has worked successfully at meeting the National Weather Service’s criteria to designate the City of Countryside as a StormReady® community which the city has successfully maintained through continued planning and preparedness development.  At the time of designation, Countryside became only the fifth community to achieve a StormReady® community status in Cook County.

Mr. Norman’s educational background includes completion of courses sponsored by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), as well as training course relating to the National Incident Management System (NIMS), severe weather spotter classes sponsored by the National Weather Service and SkyWarn™ weather education programs.
