ESDA Coordinator Steven
Norman
Coordinator Norman has been with the City of
Countryside’s Emergency Management program since 1988 and was appointed
to the position of Coordinator in May of 1999. As the coordinator, the
position is responsible for the preparation and maintenance of the
city’s comprehensive Emergency Operations Plan for responding to major
disasters, severe weather response, Strategic National Stockpile
distribution planning, preparedness education and emergency response and
mitigation planning for all city facilities, parks and sponsored
events. Additional responsibilities for the coordinator include
functioning as the city’s program lead for maintenance and compliance in
meeting federally mandated initiatives relating to the National Incident
Management System and as a city department head the position is also
responsible for budget preparation and supporting the other city
departments.
Since 2005, Coordinator Norman has worked
successfully at meeting the National Weather Service’s criteria to
designate the City of Countryside as a StormReady® community which the
city has successfully maintained through continued planning and
preparedness development. At the time of designation, Countryside
became only the fifth community to achieve a StormReady® community
status in Cook County.
Mr. Norman’s educational background includes
completion of courses sponsored by the Federal Emergency Management
Agency (FEMA), as well as training course relating to the National
Incident Management System (NIMS), severe weather spotter classes
sponsored by the National Weather Service and SkyWarn™ weather education
programs.
